{"id":9739,"date":"2019-12-29T18:34:34","date_gmt":"2019-12-29T23:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.anniee.net\/?page_id=9739"},"modified":"2025-06-21T08:29:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-21T13:29:20","slug":"travelogue-new-york-city-7","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.anniee.net\/?page_id=9739","title":{"rendered":"Travelogue: New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>December 2019<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Where We Stayed:\u00a0 The Hilton Times Square<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My Dad has always wanted to see New York City at Christmastime, so we made it happen this year!\u00a0 We got free airfare and hotel through points accumulations (yay!) and had mostly good weather (I always get nervous traveling in the winter). Here&#8217;s the bullet points of what we did, what we ate, and how things went!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We stayed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www3.hilton.com\/en\/hotels\/new-york\/hilton-times-square-NYCTSHF\/index.html\">Hilton in Times Square<\/a>.\u00a0 I\u00a0<em>loathe<\/em> Times Square, but our stay was entirely free because my dad accumulates Hilton points on one of his credit cards &#8212; so yay for free!\u00a0 I tried to book us at a Hilton outside of Times Square but everything was booked; it&#8217;s a busy time to visit New York!<\/li>\n<li>We took a 5-something-am flight out of Milwaukee to New York and honestly, I hope to never do that again.\u00a0 It made all of us a little cranky (especially my dad!) and it didn&#8217;t get the trip going on the right foot, ya know?<\/li>\n<li>Upon arriving we visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/bryantpark.org\/shop-eat\/holiday-shops\">Bryant Park Holiday Shops<\/a> (cute!) and I had some mozzarella sticks (I&#8217;m like a moth to a flame to melty cheese). I felt better because&#8230; cheese.\u00a0 But my dad was still grouchy, so I decided to branch out on my own.\u00a0 I walked around, took the train down to the East Village, had some pizza, looked at colorful murals, and just introverted for a while (in a city with people everywhere &#8211; ha).<\/li>\n<li>We had dinner at <a href=\"https:\/\/stksteakhouse.com\/venues\/nyc-midtown\/\">STK Midtown<\/a>, which was good but\u00a0<em>pricey<\/em> (though what else can you expect while in New York?). After dinner, I branched off yet again and went to look at the Christmas decorations and tree at Rockefeller Center (so pretty at night!).<\/li>\n<li>The next day, Thursday, was our NBC day.\u00a0 We got up early, took a cab to Rockefeller Center, and watched some of the Today Show.\u00a0 Really cool to see it in person and to see how it all works.\u00a0 We then grabbed a late breakfast of Starbucks, walked around, did a little shopping, had lunch at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patinagroup.com\/rock-center-cafe\">Rock Center Cafe<\/a>, then took a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetouratnbcstudios.com\/\">tour of NBC Studios<\/a>.\u00a0 The tour was alright &#8212; it was neat to see the Saturday Night Live and the Nightly News sets.<\/li>\n<li>The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is magnificent. Though Denny didn&#8217;t agree.\u00a0 He thought it would be &#8220;bigger and more impressive&#8221; &#8211; I can&#8217;t make this stuff up!<\/li>\n<li>Thursday evening we went to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockettes.com\/\">Rockettes&#8217; Christmas Spectacular<\/a> and it was, well,\u00a0<em>spectacular<\/em>.
