Travelogue: Amsterdam, Part 2

Where We Stayed: Kimpton DeWitt Amsterdam

After our day trip to Zaanse Schans, we had one more full day left in Amsterdam.  Museum day!  We started the day with the Anne Frank House.  A completely overwhelming, sad, aching experience.  It was beautifully done and I’d highly recommend.  From there we roamed around, found a place to have lunch, and did a lot of people watching.  Our next museum was MOCO – which featured modern art including pieces by Banksy and some trippy digital interactive art.

We had about 2 hours to kill so we decided, on a whim, to go to the House of Bols Cocktail & Genever Experience.  It was surprisingly fun and oooooh so colorful!  And we got two cocktails out of it!

Our last museum stop of the day was the Vincent Van Gogh Museum.  It was impressive.  You really got a sense for how prolific he was with his painting — and sadly, how mentally ill he was.  I’m not one for art museums but I really enjoyed this one.

We walked over 20K steps seeing all that Amsterdam had to offer, then inhaled dinner at the Turkish restaurant across the street from our hotel. It was a whirlwind three days in Amsterdam.

Breakfast to start the day
The first real tulips I saw!
Didn’t last long… these were fake!
Rijksmuseum — we skipped this because we ran out of time.
When in Rome…
Waiting to get into MOCO
Sometimes I just dont get it, ya know?
PREACH!
House of Bols!
This whole place was a rainbow.
Flowers and landscapes are nice, but of course my favorite piece is the smoking skeleton.
Dinner!
The ceiling of a corridor between streets.
Red lights… with the police station right in the background. I love that it’s legal there so the girls and guys can stay safe(r)!
