Travelogue: Disney Cruise to Alaska, Part 1

July 2024
Cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder

  • This post will cover our first day at sea and our visit to Stikine Icecap.
  • Mike’s mom and stepdad were so generous and treated the entire family to a 7-night cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder!  We made stops at Stikine Icecap, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
  • I would 100% recommend this trip to anyone.  The Disney ship was beautiful and clean, the food was really good (Animator’s Palate was particularly special), the on-board entertainment was varied and plentiful, and the excursions that we experienced at each port were super fun.
  • Also, for those who don’t have kids but enjoy Disney: take a Disney cruise! Yes, there are a lot of kids on board (but there are also a lot of kids when you go to the Disney parks, right?). You can make the entire experience as kid-centric or adult-centric as you’d like it to be – just like the parks.  There is an adults-only restaurant, adults-only pool, adults-only bar, etc.
  • From what I understood, the Dawes Glacier is part of the Stikine Icecap. Our ship stopped in the middle of a fjord and those that signed up for the excursion (us!) got off the ship and onto a smaller boat for a more up-close view.  It was windy and chilly but SO BEAUTIFUL!
  • Mike had a margarita made with glacial ice cubes. The kids got to hold a chunk of glacial ice. And on our way back to the Wonder, we saw a rainbow.  It was a perfect excursion and we’d highly recommend it.

This wasn’t our ship but I loved the I Heart Alaska on the bow.

The cruise ship port in Vancouver.
Our embarkation day was moody and cloudy.

The characters are always out! You can use the Disney Cruise app to find out the schedule of characters — where they’ll be and when, etc.
Exploring the ship.

A science experiment, basically.
Negroni time!
I bought many Disney-themed t-shirts for the trip.

We went here many, many times.

Mike’s Stanley and mine.

The lobby of the ship.  Look at all the cuties meeting the Princesses!
As you do at Disney.
I love a fun carpet.
Daisy, my fav!

Chiropractors are here? Sorry not sorry.

The water got progressively more blue/green as we got closer to the glacier.

It made for very nice lighting.

Our smaller boat so we could get closer to the glacier.

Hi, Denny.
When we were back on the ship, it was time for dinner at Animator’s Palate.

Are you kidding me with this cuteness?

We went to the show — the Golden Mickeys. It was cute.
