Cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder
- This post will cover our stops in Skagway and Juneau
- We really, really loved Skagway. It’s a tiny town that was made famous during the gold rush…even though it didn’t have much gold. We spent the morning on the White Pass Scenic Railway — a 3ish hour train ride up the mountain to the Yukon and back.
- The afternoon brought sled dog puppies and a lesson for the kids in panning for gold. The puppies — and learning all about the Iditarod — were the highlight of the day!
- We had a SUNNY, warm day in Juneau. We were told that Juneau gets about 280 days of clouds and or rain each year, so we felt very lucky with our gorgeous weather.
- Our excursion of the day was whale watching and rainforest hike.
- Humpback whales spend the summer near Juneau eating. #LifeGoals. And we saw SO MANY! Our guide had a binder of photos of known whales and their tail patterns. We were able to match one of the whales we saw — she turned out to be Flame, one of the area’s most active whales. She is also known as a Super Mom, having had at least 8 calves over her lifetime.
- After our awesome whale watching experience, we went on a hike through the rainforest. It was peaceful and gorgeous.
- The afternoon was spent having lunch, grabbing a salmon donut (Mike was the only one brave enough to try), and doing a little shopping.
- After dinner at Triton’s on the ship, we sat outside our room and watched a whale breach about 20 times.
