Travelogue: Danube River Cruise – Hungary, Part 1

October 2024
Tauck’s “Blue Danube” River Cruise

Part 1 of Hungary can be found here.

Time to get off the boat and explore Buda.

The beeeeeeautiful Matthias Church at Buda Castle

Looking across the river to Pest.

We headed back to Pest to visit the Dohany Street Synagogue, the largest in Europe.

Zsolt, our tour guide.

It has a real Catholic church vibe because the architect was a Christian. There is even an organ, played by a Christian woman during their services, as Jews cannot work on Saturdays.

Attached to the synagogue is the Garden of Remembrance, a mass grave for the Jews killed by Hungarian Nazis.

A weeping willow art sculpture – the leaves contain the names of those killed by Hungarian Nazis.

The entire complex was extraordinary.
Then we headed back to the boat and sailed toward Slovakia.

She’s just the cutest.

Time for a cocktail.
