Tauck’s “Blue Danube” River Cruise
- This post, Part 2, will cover our time in Durnstein.
- Durnstein is a tiny little town in the Wachau region of lower Austria. Known for vineyards, apricots, a beautiful monastery with a blue tower, and the castle that imprisoned English King Richard the Lionhart.
- It was so charming and the sun peeked out, which boosted morale!
- We spent the afternoon on the ship, continuing our Danube voyage. We got to go through a few locks, which was really cool — and we had lunch with our new friends, Mary and Bob from Colorado.
I think they could have done a better artistic representation of this guy.
This was just the cutest little tourist town.
The monastery’s tower is blue because blue and white are the colors of heaven — and the rest of the church is yellow and brown, the colors of earth. Or so we were told.
I walked in here and said, “Holy shit!” to which Jeanne replied, “That is NOT what you should say in a CHURCH!”
