Travelogue: Chicago, Part 2

March 2026
Where We Stayed: The Langham

Saturday was spend watching the Chicago River turn green. The Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local 130 is in charge of this task each year.  They use an orange vegetable-based dye to turn the river bright green. It’s so cool to watch. We also went shopping for some souvenirs for the kids, and battled the major crowds of drunk twentysomethings and their borgs.

Mid-afternoon we went on an architecture cruise, which was unique because how often do you get to do this with a bright green river? Unfortunately, the weather took a turn and we “enjoyed” a rainy/snowy boat ride. But I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again and again: the architecture tours are fascinating and I HIGHLY recommend. I’ve probably taken 10+ over the years and I always learn something new.

That evening we went to Three Dots and a Dash for drinks + dinner. We both decided that we don’t need to revisit that experience again. We’ve done it twice now and honestly, we are getting too old for this sh’t. It’s LOUD, dark, and the food is mediocre at best. But we both love a tiki bar, soooooo.

We woke up early the next morning and were on the road home to Wisconsin by 7:30am… with the goal of beating the incoming blizzard. And we did! Whew.
